Baseball & Beaches: Spring Training in Southwest Florida

Baseball

There are so many reasons to love Florida, especially Southwest Florida’s beaches. But each “spring” – starting in February, in fact – baseball lovers have an extra-special reason to join us in Sarasota and the surrounding region: SPRING TRAINING!

We are thrilled to welcome the Orioles back to Sarasota with pitchers and catchers scheduled to report on Tuesday, February 12. The full-squad report date is set for Sunday, February 17. Click here to view the 2019 Orioles Spring Training schedule at Ed Smith Stadium. Sarasota’s Ed Smith Stadium is located just 5 miles (a 10-minute drive) from the Sarasota Sleep Inn / MainStay Suites.

We also have many opportunities for baseball fans to catch multiple teams in the area:

Pirates – The Pittsburg Pirates have called Bradenton their home away from home since 1969. Catch a Pirates spring training game at LECOM Park, formally known as McKechnie Field, and extend your day-trip to Bradenton with a visit to the South Florida Museum, stroll along the Bradenton Riverwalk or event at Village of the Arts. Click here to view the Pirates’ 2019 spring training schedule. (If spring training doesn’t work in your vacation schedule this year, you may want to catch a Florida State League game during the Bradenton Marauders’ baseball season.)

Rays – You can easily attend a Tampa Bay Rays spring training OR regular season baseball game when staying in Sarasota. During spring training you’ll find the Rays just south of Sarasota at Charlotte Sports Park in Port Charlotte. This facility is located 40 miles from our hotel. The Rays play the regular season at Tropicana Field in St. Petersburg, also about a 40 minute drive from our hotel. Click here to check the Rays 2019 schedules.

Braves – Our area is thrilled to welcome another Major League Baseball team to the region. The Braves 2019 spring training season is being held in Orlando until the final spring training game of the season which will be played at their all-new facility in North Port (Southern Sarasota County) on Sunday, March 24, 2019. The Braves’ new CoolToday Park state-of-the-art complex is located in West Villages Florida in southern Sarasota County, 25 miles from the Sarasota Sleep Inn / MainStay Suites.

All of these opportunities to catch baseball this spring are within an easy drive from the Sarasota Sleep Inn / MainStay Suites, surrounded by great restaurants and attractions along the away.

Best of luck to all the fans and players gearing up for the Grapefruit League!
